DIAdem Basics

The DIAdem Basics course teaches you how to use the most important analysis, reporting, and data management features of the DIAdem environment. At the end of this course you will be comfortable importing data sets, analyzing them visually and computationally, and creating publisher-quality reports. You will also learn how to use Visual Basic Script to automate each of these tasks and build DIAdem applications.

Audience:

  • New DIAdem users

  • Users and technical managers evaluating DIAdem in purchasing decisions

  • Users needing to display, analyze and produce reports for large amounts of test data

After attending this course you will be able to:

  • Create reports to present the data, including graphs and tables

  • View and graphically investigate loaded data

  • Automate report generation

  • Import ASCII files and load DIAdem files

  • Execute channel-based calculations on loaded data

  • Use Visual Basic Script to automate the above steps

  • Use Visual Basic Script to create DIAdem applications

  • Control DIAdem from LabVIEW (Optional)

  • Execute standard automobile Crash evaluations (Optional)

Prerequisites:

  • Experience using Windows

  • Programming experience is helpful, but not essential

You will cover:

Data Import

  • Using DIAdem’s ASCII Import Wizard to import existing ASCII files

  • Using the DIAdem Header file (*.DAT) to import existing files

  • Loading individual channels from a data file

  • Applying data reduction while loading data from file

  • Generating data channels within DIAdem (i.e. time channel)

Visual Data Inspection

  • Quick graphing of loaded data

  • Zooming, windowing, and peak detection

  • Visually selecting curve sections for analysis

General Calculations

  • Using DIAdem’s Formula Calculator

  • Handling NoValues in calculations

  • Configuring algorithms in DIAdem’s CALC window

  • Executing calculations from Visual Basic Script

Specific Calculations

  • Peak search, curve smoothing

  • Statistical calculations (min, max, mean)

  • Polynomial and Spline curve fitting

  • Fourier Transforms and digital filters

Report Creation

  • Using Report Templates (*.LPD) in DIAdem

  • Selecting graph type (XY, bar chart, XYZ, etc.)

  • Selecting channels to graph

  • Selecting line and point styles

  • Configuring curve symbol display

  • Defining graph axes

  • Creating and using multiple y-axes

  • Defining the graph legend

  • Configuring tables and table columns

  • Adding free text, linking DIAdem environment variables

  • Adding graphics (*.BMP, *.JPG) to your report

  • 3D graphing modes and 3D graphing math transforms

Visual Basic Script Automation

  • Automatically recording a Visual Basic Script while using DIAdem

  • Introduction to Visual Basic Script syntax (If…Then, For…Next)

  • Creating and using Subroutines and Functions in Visual Basic Script

  • Calling DIAdem environment functions from Visual Basic Script

  • Creating and using DIAdem environment variables

  • Creating and using Scriptable User Dialogs

  • Integrating DIAdem environment dialogs into your script

  • Performing serial calculations

  • Launching a script at DIAdem start-up

LabVIEW – DIAdem Interface (Optional)

  • Using LabVIEW VIs to Read and write DIAdem files

  • Using LabVIEW VIs to send and receive data directly from DIAdem (OLE)

  • Using LabVIEW VIs to remote-control the DIAdem environment (OLE)

The CRASH Toolkit (Optional)

  • Review of all Crash functions in DIAdem (Hic, Xms, NIC, NIJ, RES)

  • Discussion of functions and their mathematical background

  • Creating automated Crash analysis scripts
