ANSI C Primer Course

The ANSI† C Primer Course prepares you for the LabWindows/CVI training courses if you need to refresh your C programming skills or increase your familiarity with the C programming language. The hands-on course is taught using ANSI C. Attendees receive a C programming manual which serves as a reference after the course.

†American National Standards Institute, a private, non-profit organization that administers and coordinates the U.S. voluntary standardization and conformity assessment

Audience: 

  • Attendees to the LabWindows/CVI courses who need to refresh their C programming skills

After attending this course you will be able to: 

  • Understand the components of a C program and C data types

  • Use C program structures, functions and statements

  • Create code that runs continuously with loops

  • Store data in arrays

  • Use C strings

  • Access memory using pointers

Prerequisites: 

  • Programming experience is helpful

You will cover:

 Components of a C Program

  • Develop modular code using functions

  • Learn how to declare variables and the scope of the variable

  • Create code that can respond to keyboard input

  • Learn about the predefined C keywords

Constructs

  • Create code that can make decisions with if-else statements

  • Use the for loop, and while loop to perform repetitive tasks

  • Learn how to use the switch statement

C Operators

  • Learn about various operators such as shift operations and the assignment operator

C Data Types

  • Learn about variables and initialization

  • Take a closer look at constants

  • Learn about type conversion and assignment

Data Structures

  • Learn about local and global variables

  • Use arrays to store data

  • Store and manipulate characters in strings

  • Learn about the use of pointers, and how they are important to the C programming language

Functions

  • Learn how to use functions to create modular applications

  • Learn how to pass values into functions

  • Understand how values are returned from functions
